Swim With The Current or.....

November Beach Sunset in Florida

The Snowbirds Are Here...

The snowbirds are definitely here - captured at Cocoa Beach, FL 2012-10-25

But, please what is a "snowbird" anyway.....? Wiki has the answer, like to anything else :-))

The term "snowbird" is used to describe people from the U.S. Northeast, U.S. Midwest, or Canada who spend a large portion of winter in warmer locales such as California, Arizona, Florida,Texas, the Carolinas, or elsewhere along the Sun Belt region of the southern and southwest United States, Mexico, and areas of the Caribbean. It is also used for people from eastern Canada or northern Canada who migrate to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, for the winter. Victoria is known for having very mild winters by Canadian standards, and has an annual "blossom count" in mid-February to prove its warm winter status.

Snowbirds are typically retirees, and business owners who have a second home in a warmer location or whose business can be easily moved from place to place, such as flea market and swap meet vendors. Some snowbirds carry their homes with them, as campers (mounted on bus or truck frames) or as boats following the east coast Intra-coastal waterway.

In the past snowbirds were frequently wealthy persons with independent incomes who maintained several seasonal residences and shifted residence with the seasons to avail themselves of the best time to be at each location; this custom has declined considerably due to changing patterns of taxation and the relative ease of long-distance travel compared with earlier times.

Many of these "snowbirds" also use their vacation time to declare permanent residency in low- or no-tax income tax states (where the tax bases are augmented by high tourism taxes), and claim lower non-resident income taxes in their home states. Canadian snowbirds usually make sure they retain residency in Canada in order to retain health benefits.

The right to vote for local office is governed by local law, so it may be possible to vote for local offices in both places if the locality permits nonresident voting based on property ownership, but representation in the United States federal Congress is for residents as enumerated by the decennial census and voting in U.S. federal elections in more than one jurisdiction is deemed to be electoral fraud.

I'm wishing you a very HAPPY and relaxing SUNDAY!

Oh,...and on YouTube I have found this for you - about "Snowbirds"... ENJOY!

Nature is so powerful...

Nature is so powerful, so strong. Capturing its essence is not easy - your work becomes a dance with light and the weather.
It takes you to a place within yourself.

Hi my friends,

thank you all for your kind comments to my wordless Sunday post!

This new picture above is about weather, stormy clouds and rain. I made the picture yesterday in the same park where my "Wordless Sunday" photograph was taken. I had two minutes only to shoot, the wind was picking up like crazy and it begun to rain. Weather can change very quick here in the rainy season - I love to feel the big rain drops on my skin!

I hope I could catch the pretty spooky atmosphere that always reigns before the storm and the rain set in. I love the weather like this!!

Have y'all a wonderful Wednesday.
See you later....
~Susanne

Photo - Swap - Thursday # 1

Hi Everyone,
Like all of you, I’m a big fan of Susanne’s work. I hope you will enjoy our Photo Swap Thursdays as much as I know Susanne and I will! This first photo was taken at sunset in Bodega Bay, California. The story behind it is below:

It was an ordinary sea gull doing nothing more than what sea birds ordinarily do. But the sun was dragging the light of coastal California back into the sea and launching its final spears of light at a craggy shoreline… It was too cold for crowds on the bluff, and soon it was only the bird and me. A fierce and chilling wind whipped my hair, blinding me until I turned to face its force directly. The bird soared effortlessly on its current, floating up again and again without twitching a muscle, merely tipping from side to side to catch the wind’s lift and riding the gusting draft as the sinking sun ignited sand and surf below…

A warm car awaited me. And dinner. A long drive too, during which I would be able to sink into my seat and watch the creeping night absorb the silhouettes along the road. The intensity of the chilling wind would fade instantly to a faint whistle when I leapt into the heated car. And so I could linger for a moment.

It was one of those perfect moments where the intensities of the external and the internal blend into a lasting sensory picture to file under memories in your inner library.

The wonder of this one was that I also got the photograph…

A short Trip up to Marathon

Yesterday we took a short trip up to Marathon and stopped here and there on the way. This picture shows a inviting privat beach scene at Geiger Key.

Most everybody dreams of having a little island like this for their own privat getaway. Do you? It's right here in the Keys, come and get it.

This is a view out from the car of the 7-Mile-Bridge who is connecting Big Pine Key and Marathon together. Between is nothing than water, water, water.... to the left the emerald green water of the Gulf of Mexico on the other side the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

Almost there..... Marathon is just some miles away and visible already.

This is the view on the way back home to Key West: the old 7 Mile-bridge on the right and the new bridge to the left in the sparkling late afternoon sunshine.

If you would like to buy one or all of these pictures please drop me an email about prices and sizes to
