The Beautiful, White Sandy Beaches of Panama City, Florida

The pristine white sands at Panama City Beach - before the oil spill! Lost paradise?

Hi my friends,
Doesn't looks like in paradise, my photo of Panama City Beach?
This was how the beach looked before BP's big oil spill - and how it still looks today we all know it from the media.
Slowly they are recovering from that BIG environmental disaster - of course, the media is saying that again.
I wish for all the residents there, that the media is right!
Hoping that all the businesses will have a great come back again, like it was before.

Thank you to all my friends for your kind comments yesterday!

I have to cut off my laptop.... it's lightning to much!
See ya' later.... :)

He just simply enjoys the colors of the water

Family fun at the beach

Hi my friends,

We are heading back to Florida's Peninsula. We loved the emerald green water of the Gulf of Mexico - and we had a good time there. We were even thinking to settle down in Panama City and went out looking at some houses already. But, we didn't liked anything we have seen. Yep, I know it.... probably we are not that easy people if it comes to living accommodations, we have a certain taste and a lot of expectations for our new future home! But I'm optimistic, one day we will find THAT pretty little house to call it our new home :)

Thank you so much for all your kind comments to my last post. Love you all! :)

Stay with me, see ya' tomorrow in Florida again!

Girls, Girls, Girls...

Young girls chatting, walking together in the white sand and enjoying
the hot summer sun at the beach. Tomorrow I'll show you more beach scene photos.

Hi my friends,

thanks for all the wonderful comments and compliments to my last photo! :)

We've enjoyed today Panama City Beach - and it was HOT, HOT, HOT!

It felt like it was one of the hottest days today! But it was a very nice, relaxed afternoon, we both had fun watching all the beach people going by and looking out to the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. And we get sunburned too :)

I'll show you some pictures tomorrow, if I'll have Internet, o.k.? :)

Stay with us, we will be on the road again tomorrow.
See you there!

Don't fight!

Fighting for food

Hi my friends,

thank you all for all the nice comments and compliments to my last post and to my last 1001 other posts over all the years I was blogging. Yep, this is my post #1002, today! Unbelievable also for me that I can be working on my blog such a long time and so focused :)

We are arrived at the beautiful Emerald Coast in the Panhandle of Florida - it is perfect weather here and the water is indeed emerald green! We have visited this Gulf region already 6 months ago, that was when we were starting out with our travels, going West the first time.

Who knows, maybe we will be heading towards West again - but first we like to enjoy the Gulf shores, the snow white sand beaches and getting also some sun tan...LOL... :)

Well, then....stay tuned with me - see you at the beach!

Two days at the beach

Coming from Corpus Christi, you'll be entering the Islands, first Padre Island and then take a left to Mustang Island - that's what we did

This is our little RV enjoying beach life

We were not the only one parked out here, everywhere were also big buses to see. On Mustang Island and at Port Aransas is actually allowed to park RV's directly on the beach, even over night, if you have a permit from the city

The sound of the rolling waves were very loud - but it was beautiful to listen to the melody of the waves!

There is also all kind of life going on on a beach: kids are playing and looking for shells

Seagulls are flying close by - La Paloma blanca

Why do Pelicans fly in groups?

A close up shot to five of the "group members"

In Port Aransas you can watch the big oil tankers going out to the deep sea

Or the deep sea fishing boats coming back home to the harbor

Port Aransas is getting ready for next week starting spring breakers - thousands of students will probably overflow the island and this pretty little town and at the beach

Beautiful beaches, vibrant views, relaxing retreats. Enjoy shimmering sunrises over the Texas Gulf Coast and serene evenings on the bay. Port Aransas is the premier vacation destination for beach, sun and family fun! Wiggle your toes in the sand! Reel in a redfish, captain a kayak, search for seashells, birdwatch, shop coastal stores and dine in island style restaurants. Our tranquil, tropical community boasts miles of natural beaches, gentle gulf breezes and just-right weather making our island a perfect, peaceful get away. Get close to the water and away from the crowds. Stay for a weekend or a week in choice accommodations -from quaint cottages to beachfront condos and RV parks to camp grounds. Visit Port Aransas on Mustang Island and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Texas~Island Style!

What a pretty morning today!

That's the look out to the the water this morning, walking to the pier from the campground in Carrabelle, FL

Sitting on those chairs is for sure a nice place to be and to watch the sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico, if there is a sunset. Yesterday we had no sunset, it was gray and cloudy. In the night we had heavy rainfall and very strong winds but happily no tornadoes, they went trough little more in the North in Georgia.

In this case, thank you all for crossing your fingers for us :)

This is the view to the RV Park in Carrabelle, FL where we spent our night. Today we plan to head more to West. Maybe we will make it to the Alabama today!

See ya' later there.... and have a great time too!

The Lighthouse in Key West

Lighthouse in a pink evening sky

View from the top to the west where the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico come together. Can you see the big cruise ship in the harbor?

View from the top to Hemingway's house and his wonderful garden

View to the East overlooking the Atlantic

Built in 1847 to aid to ships navigating dangerous reefs off the lower Keys, the Key West Lighthouse now stands sentinel over one of Florida's finest historical sites.

The tower was originally 46 feet high and powered by 15 oil lamps with 15-inch reflectors, but was extended to 86 feet in 1894. Inside visitors now climb 88 iron steps to the observation deck that affords spectacular views.

The tower and nearby Keeper's Quarters have been faithfully restored and maintained as they were before the lighthouse was deactivated in 1969. Many of the historic elements remain, including the pipes used to deliver acetylene gas that powered the light before it was electrified in 1927. The clapboard bungalow where the keepers and their families lived while maintaining the beacon has been recreated in turn-of-the-century style with historic furniture, furnishings and photos that provide a sense of life in Key West during that formative time.

This light station was built after the hurricane of 1846 destroyed the original 1825 tower on the coast. It is the 15th oldest surviving lighthouse in the country.

But as intriguing as the structures themselves are the lives of the keepers who climbed the steps each day to clean and fuel the lamps, especially that of Barbara Mabrity, who took over after her husband died in 1832. She tended the lamps for the 32 years until at age 82 she was fired for making statements against the Union, which controlled Key West and the lighthouse during the Civil War. When a hurricane destroyed the light station in 1846, Barbara Mabrity survived but six of her children were killed after the family sought shelter in the tower. In 1886 the original keeper's dwelling was torn down and replaced with the present building. After its deactivation, the Lighthouse was acquired by Monroe County. In 1972 it was leased to the Key West Art & Historical Society, which added safety features and opened it to the public in 1989. The keeper's quarters were renovated in 1990 and opened as a museum.

In 1998 the lighthouse was nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark, which would put it in the same category as the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.

The 88-step circular iron stairway leading to the lighthouse deck from which much of Key West and the nearby ocean is visible.

Cruise Ships in Key West

The "Majesty of the Seas" is leaving Key West - next destination is Cancun, Mexico.
Some days we have up to four of these big cruisers docked in the harbor.
It makes me so many times dreaming about to travel also with these big boats to other nice places in the Carribean Sea.

A Visit to the Dry Tortugas - Series 6

Take a ride with this small airplane for visiting the Dry Tortugas Islands or catch the Ferry early in the morning.

This picture is the view from the top of Fort Jefferson and it gives me a feeling of eternity, peace and freedom: only blue water, clouds and horizon where ever your eyes are looking around.

After a very intresting guided tour in Fort Jefferson, take a walk on the walls all around the fort and enjoy nature, sunshine and the blue color of the water. You also will see many snorklers enjoying the crystal clear underwater scene.

It's just a perfect day out there - another part of paradise!

The white sandbar is the bird sanctuary across from Fort Jefferson.

The Bounty

This is the original Bounty - sitting in the Gulf in front of Mallory Square - on that they filmed the movie "Pirates of the Carribean" with Jonny Depp. And of course this boat is a big tourist attraction every year.

A short Trip up to Marathon

Yesterday we took a short trip up to Marathon and stopped here and there on the way. This picture shows a inviting privat beach scene at Geiger Key.

Most everybody dreams of having a little island like this for their own privat getaway. Do you? It's right here in the Keys, come and get it.

This is a view out from the car of the 7-Mile-Bridge who is connecting Big Pine Key and Marathon together. Between is nothing than water, water, water.... to the left the emerald green water of the Gulf of Mexico on the other side the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

Almost there..... Marathon is just some miles away and visible already.

This is the view on the way back home to Key West: the old 7 Mile-bridge on the right and the new bridge to the left in the sparkling late afternoon sunshine.
