Hurricane Isaac's path

Cacti bushes, captured in Arizona

Hi my friends,

it's Sunday again and I hope you all have a good one, where ever you are!

Two days ago we were fearing Hurricane "Isaac"'s path coming over Florida and today we are lucky and happy... he turned out more to the waters into the Gulf of Mexico and Florida is out of danger, except Key West get wet. You never know up to the last days which direction the storm will really turn.

Back in time, when we were living down in Key West, we were evacuating many times - and nothing happened at home. And by many other storms we sat at home, boarded up with a lot of water and a bigger stock of can food as usual...had no electricity for some days - and get soaked with to much water....almost in to the living room.

But today we are happy and thankful not to had to do anything from all above.

Wishing you all a safe and lucky Sunday too!
~Susanne

Money won't make you happy....

Money won't make you happy... but everybody wants to
find out for themselves.

Hi my friends,

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and all those many "thumbs up" also on facebook to my last "Wordless Sunday" post.

We are absolutely NOT looking forward to Hurricane "Irene" who is coming this way towards the Florida East Coast - and the good news are, "she" will move more far out in to the Atlantic! We will get some heavy rain, that's for sure - but nothing more.

And rain is always welcomed in Florida.

Thanks for that!

Wishing you ALL a nice Tuesday.
Susanne

Red as Blood...

Red as blood
This planet Earth, the act of putting a roof over our heads,
our flesh and blood existence, it's all very temporary.

Phalaenopsis Orchid

I LOVE Orchids!

Phalaenopsis

are among the easiest and most rewarding orchids to grow. An American Orchid Society demographic survey showed that Phalaenopsis have become America~s favorite orchid. The plants adapt well to the environment of the home or office. From the time that the first flower bud opens, the sprays will remain in bloom for the next 2 to 3 months.

LIGHTING
Sufficient lighting is a must for successful cultivation. Phalaenopsis prefer either an east or a lightly shaded south facing window. West windows should be used with caution. Depending upon the location of the home, the west window may become very hot during the late spring through early fall. The foliage on your Phalaenopsis may burn.

TEMPERATURE
Phalaenopsis thrive under normal household temperatures. For the best results, provide nighttime temperatures between 60 to 65°F and daytime temperatures between 75 to 85°F.

WATERING
Depending upon the temperature, Phalaenopsis potted in bark should be watered about once or twice a week. During the summer, the plants may need to be watered every 4-5 days. The rule of thumb for watering should be as followed : More heat more water, less heat less water.

Phalaenopsis potted in New Zealand sphagnum moss should be watered less often, about every 7 to 10 days.

Phalaenopsis prefer to be kept on the moist side. This does not mean that they like to be left in standing water, however try to water the plants early in the day so that the foliage will be dry by nightfall. To prevent bacterial and fungal disease use Physan 20 once a month.

Hi my friends,
I'm happy I could bring some sunshine to you with my beach scene post from yesterday. That's what my blog is for, to enjoy YOU with my pictures :))

Today we have a beautiful flower online - the Orchid. This one was the flower in the garden of my neighbor friend down in Key West. From her I've learned a lot about Orchids and I learned to LOVE these flowers and still do it today!
Aren't they beauties?

Green Simphony

And this picture is the opposite from my yesterday's post. I like to do experiments with light and shade, with shapes and colors.
Diese Aufnahme ist die umgekehrte Version von meinem gestrigen Bild in Schwarz-Weiss. Ich mag das Herumexperimentieren mit Licht und Schatten, mit Formen und Farben.

Basil or Basilikum

Finally, my Basil is growing nicely again in my herb garden. It takes a while because of the fight with many snails and all kinds of bugs. Now we can enjoy our fresh herbs every day in our "cuisine".

It is time to post a Black & White photograph again, right? In this picture I was capturing a single second of light on this palmleaf - as soon as I clicked, the sunlight was gone!
