On the way from the Florida Gulf Coast to the Atlantic, the back roads were taking us through thick swampy areas on both sides. There was a fantastic view of nature with a lot of big white herons fishing in the late afternoon.

Das war auch fuer mich ein schoenes und aufregendes Erlebnis, als wir von der Westkueste Floridas rueber zur Ostkueste am Atlantik, durch richtige Sumpfgegenden fuhren. Links und rechts der Strasse waren nichts als djungelaehnliche Landschaften, Palmen, tropisches Dickicht, und aber auch sehr viele der herrlichen, grossen weissen Heron-Voegel am fischen zu sehen.

This picture reminds me when I was a young girl and was looking up to the sky, searching for answers about God, the world and the universe. But not all answers are written in the stars, I learned that very fast!

This picture reflects the image of "freedom" in every way. It was made on my last Dry Tortugas trip.

This "Bird of Paradise" I found hidden away in a secret garden in St. Augustine, Florida.

For sure it is NOT the door to heaven or the "Golden Gates"! It is the entrance to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota where stormy clouds were forming in the afternoon.But still a heavenly place to visit! I have more pictures from the serie to show later.

Dieses imposante Tor ist nicht das Himmelstor! Es ist vielmehr die wunderschoene Eingangspforte zum Ringling-Museum in Sarasota, an Floridas Westkueste. Auch wenn's nicht der Eingang zum Himmel ist, das Museum ist alleweil eine Besichtigung wert. Spaeter werden noch mehr Bilder folgen aus dieser Serie.

This picture was made in the Bahia Honda State Park on a pretty day. Bahia Honda is close to the Old Railroad Bridge, the 7 Mile Bridge and Marathon in the Florida Keys. A beautiful beach is so inviting to take a long walk in the turquoise blue shallows.


Ich habe dieses Bild im Bahia Honda Nationalpark gemacht. Bahia Honda liegt zu Fuessen der alten Eisenbahnbruecke und nahe zu Marathon und der
7-Meilen Bruecke. Es ist eine schoene einladende Beach, wo man weit im flachen Wasser hinauslaufen kann, immer den weissen Sand und das tuerkisblaue Meer vor Augen.

Relaxation

I feel like I need to rest for a little while... I really don't feel well today! And this is not a joke. After some hours in the emergency room last night I need to stop this putting up pictures for a day or two, o.k.?...anyway..I wish I could relax in a beach chair like here in this picture, captured at Seaside Beach up in the Panhandle of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.

Ich fuehle mich heute absolut nicht wohl,nach ein paar Stunden Aufenthalt im Notfallzimmer des Spitals letzte Nacht. Deshalb werde ich fuer ein oder zwei Tage eine kleine Zwangspause einlegen muessen mit dem Abladen der Fotos - und hoffe auf Euer Verstaendnis. Das Bild waere jetzt so genau das was ich braeuchte: Relaxen in einem Beach-Stuhl. Das Foto habe ich in Seaside gemacht, am wunderschoenen Beach dort oben im Norden Floridas, am Golf von Mexico gelegen.

The Old Railroad

Dead end of the road – don’t look back! This picture was made at the end of the cut off railroad bridge at Bahia Honda. Maybe you know the story about the one railroad that was built by Henry Flagler in the early 1900's connecting the Florida Keys with the mainland, at Florida’s Peninsula.

Today, the railroad doesn’t exist anymore and has been replaced with the 7 Mile-Bridge.

Dieses Bild entstand auf dem Bruchstueck der noch erhaltenen alten Eisenbahnbruecke in Bahia Honda. Die Eisenbahn faehrt schon lange nicht mehr, was zurueck geblieben ist, ist viel Rost und noch mehr Nostalgie. Ein reicher Enthusiast und Pionier, Mr. Flagler, hat diese Bruecke in eigener Regie und eigenen Mitteln in den fruehen 1900 erbaut um Key West und all die Keys mit dem Festland zu verbinden. Leider wurde aus seinem Vorhaben ein grosses finanzielles Fiasko und damit das Ende der Bahnstrecke. Die Bahn wurde mit der 7-Meilen-Bruecke ersetzt.

This picture was made on a almost perfect day trip to the Dry Tortugas with my friend from Switzerland, Heidi, when she visited me in Key West last spring. We had a great time together! There will be more pictures from that series later.

I made this picture on our "Hurricane-Ernesto-Trip" 3 weeks ago, evacuating from the storm that never came to Key West. A few raindrops and a small breeze, maybe - but nothing more. Anyway, my husband and I enjoyed this trip very much and I got a lot of nice photographs, anyway. Hurricanes have their "good sides" too....
