Hi my friends,

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and all those many "thumbs up" also on facebook to my last "Wordless Sunday" post.

We are absolutely NOT looking forward to Hurricane "Irene" who is coming this way towards the Florida East Coast - and the good news are, "she" will move more far out in to the Atlantic! We will get some heavy rain, that's for sure - but nothing more. 


And rain is always welcomed in Florida.

Thanks for that!

Hydrangea Flowers

Hydrangea flowers are produced from early spring to late autumn; they grow in flowerheads (corymbs or panicles) at the ends of the stems. In many species, the flowerheads contain two types of flowers, small fertile flowers in the middle of the flowerhead, and large, sterile bract-like flowers in a ring around the edge of each flowerhead. Other species have all the flowers fertile and of the same size.

In most species the flowers are white, but in some species (notably H. macrophylla), can be blue, red, pink, or purple. In these species the exact colour often depends on the pH of the soil; acidic soils produce blue flowers, neutral soils produce very pale cream petals, and alkaline soils results in pink or purple. Hydrangeas are one of very few plants that accumulate aluminium. Aluminium is released from acidic soils, and in some species, forms complexes in the hydrangea flower giving them their blue colour.

I think these pictures don't need to many words to explain how I felt photographing all those nice spots and corners in Magnolia Gardens. It reflects for me a "little paradise", peace and beauty - and that's what I want to share with you. ENJOY!

Azaleas, Azaleas.... everywhere!

It's like out of a dream

Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the oldest public tourist site in the Lowcountry, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1872 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens.
