My 7th Year of Blogging - Happy Blogoversary!

One day ago was my 7th year of blogging, it was my 7th BLOGGOVERSARY - Yeah!!!!!

Two years ago I wanted to stop doing this blog, one year ago I wrote about quitting this blogging for sure...... and I'm still here....LOL.... and I like it. I still have enough ideas to blog about but not that much time anymore to do it every single day. I'll be here also for the next 3 years to come to celebrate the big number 10 - I hope.... :-)))))

Thank you ALL my friends who have visited my blog in these 7 years - without YOU I would never have made a total of 105'209 visitors, I wouldn't have 538 loyal blog-members, and at last but not least, without all your visits I wouldn't have a page rank 3 from Google what I'm very proud of it!

Thank you all, my friends! Let's celebrate: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWITZERLAND

Celebrating the Swiss National Day at the Rhine falls near Schaffhausen

Swiss National Day, August 1st

Founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291

Since 1891, the first of August has been celebrated as Swiss National Day. The date refers to a historic alliance concluded in 1291 by the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. This alliance was to become the focal point around which the Switzerland of today was built over the next 500 years.

Men from these three cantons "at the beginning of the month of August 1291" swore  eternal allegiance to one another, promising mutual help and assistance. The alliance was mainly formed against the Habsburgs, who were striving to strengthen their position in the strategic region leading to the Gotthard Pass at the time.

August 1st is celebrated exclusively within the communities; a radio or television broadcast by the President of the Swiss Confederation is the only exception to this esteemed federal principle. Communal celebrations comprise solemn words spoken by a prominent public figure from political or cultural life, accompanied by a concert or choire, gymnastic presentations, and the community singing the national anthem.

Wealthy communities or tourist offices may also sponsor a display of fireworks. Bonfires, mainly on hills and other elevated spots, commemorate the expulsion of foreign bailiffs in the fourteenth century, the news of which were spread in this manner in those days. Children carrying lighted paper lanterns roam the streets at night. Public and private buildings are decorated with national, cantonal, and community flags, and the bakers produce special bread rolls with a small Swiss flag on top.

A special kind of celebration takes place at the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. From mid-nineteenth century onwards, the waterfall has been illuminated on special occasions. Since 1920, it has been illuminated regularly on August 1, and since 1966 exclusively so. On the same day, a magnificent fireworks display also attracts throngs of spectators to this special site.

A representative celebration is staged at the Rütli Meadow in the canton of Uri above Lake Lucerne. It takes place in the same place where the legendary pledge of alliance was pronounced.

P.S. And, something very important:
it's our 10th Anniversary today too - thank you Switzerland for all the fire work to our anniversary day! :-))

An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow.

And this is our 2nd reason to celebrate today: It's our 8th Anniversary today - and we are still in LOVE together.... I would say: more than ever! :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY and an AWARD!

HAPPY SECOND ANNIVERSARY!!
September 14th 2006 - September 14th 2008

Hurray! Today is the 2nd birthday of my blog. It's a big day for me and I'm so proud of this little success…the fact that I could continue blogging (almost) every day!

Since starting this blog I have had over 20,000 visitors and I have made 700 posts. I'm so thankful to have met many great friends from all over the globe, you and you and you.....

To keep up a good friendship means a lot for me and that's why I want to say thank you to all of my loyal visitors. Without your supportive comments I would not have come this far.

And now I'm also happy to announce an unexpected Birthday gift I got from a beautiful blogger friend of mine: Michele, the Rocky Mountain Girl. She gave me this wonderful award and I am grateful. She said to me: "I really do love your blog". Thank you so much Michele for this gift and your kind compliment. I'm honored to receive this from you and do you know what, I love your blog too and love to see all your beautiful and refreshing photos, even though sometimes they make a little bit homesick for the mountains. I'm a mountain girl too, but from a place far away over the ocean.

And I had a hard time deciding whom I will pass this award to, because there are so many great blogs that I love. I'm sure all of you, my friends, deserve this award!
I’m going to pass this on to:

Today Is a Special Day For Us and for us Swiss too !

My Darling and I are married today for 7 years and still happy together!
(The picture was made 7 years ago in Key West, Florida, after our marriage)

Happy Birthday my Switzerland - it's our National Day today!
I'm very proud to be a Swiss and I have learned to appreciate my Country since I'm living as an expat in the U.S.!

Switzerland
(English pronunciation: [ˈswɪtsÉ™(r)lÉ™nd] (help·info); German: Schweiz, French: Suisse, Italian: Svizzera, Romansh: Svizra), officially the Swiss Confederation (Confoederatio Helvetica in Latin, hence its ISO country codes CH and CHE), is a landlocked alpine country of roughly 7.6 million people in Western Europe with an area of 41,285 km². Switzerland is a federal republic consisting of 26 states called cantons. Berne is the seat of the federal authorities, while the country's economic centres are its two global cities, Geneva and especially Zürich. Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world.

It is bordered by Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. Switzerland has a long history of neutrality — it has not been at war since 1815 — and hosts many international organizations, including the Red Cross, the World Trade Organization and one of the U.N.'s two European offices. Switzerland is multilingual and has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. The country's formal name is Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft in German, Confédération suisse in French, Confederazione Svizzera in Italian and Confederaziun svizra in Romansh. The establishment of Switzerland is traditionally dated to August 1, 1291; the first of August is the national holiday.
