Sparkling Sunlight in the Trees

African-American Cemetery

The African American cemetery at Charles Towne Landing dates from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. In 1974 research on the cemetery was published by John Combs from the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. This paper is recognized as the first academic study of African American burial practices and cemeteries in the United States. The cemetery continues to be a research focus for the park.

sunlight is amazing here. The picture reminds me of the playgrounds of my school when i was a kid. Huge lawns and trees over a hundred years old. Reminds me of many pleasant childhood memories. Thanks Sue
