A very special Restaurant and a MUST to visit!

Blue Heaven front view

The islands most quintessentially "Key West" restaurant has to be Blue Heaven. Like everything in Key West, it's got some history. The building once housed a bordello and later Hemingway refereed boxing matches there.

Located in the Bahamian neighborhood (Bahama Village), this restaurant is an absolute favorite with locals and visitors serving fine American cuisine.

During the day a few chicken and roosters roam the outdoor dining garden. By nightfall, they have moved to the trees to roost for the night while the cats come out to play.

The food is outstanding, the atmosphere funky and lively, and the experience should be memorable. Live music is gently offered by local musicians as diners enjoy the breezes caught in the shade sails.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
No reservations accepted (except for very large groups).

The End of the Rainbow....

This is the sign for the end of the "Highway #1" that starts up in Maine in the north and goes down the whole east coast of the United States ending with "Mile 0" at Whitehead Street in Key West. In between you will see a lot of wonderful landscapes to photograph or paint! One of my dreams is to drive Highway #1 from "Mile 0" in Key West to "Mile 0" in Maine, the so called, "End of the rainbow". Maybe one day I will do it....

Please don't disturb....

Nowhere in my life I have seen so many street bums living and hanging around everywhere like here in Key West. You could think almost, the island belongs to them. They are just everywhere, at the beach and in the streets, living at the edge of our society. This guy is taking his nap on the wall at Mallory Square.

Man sieht sich also dort....?

These are the two most famous bars on Duval Street. Ernest Hemingway himself was visiting often Sloppy Joe's Bar. In both bars are live bands entertaining the tourists up to early hours in the mornings. In Captain Tony's Saloon you can meet on certain days the legendary Capt.Tony himself who was celebrating last year his 90. birthday and was a good friend of Hemingway.
