Is this the way to Amarillo?

This is how it was looking the next morning in Albuquerque: SNOW!

On the road again to Texas and in between was Tucumcari...

...and also a ghost town...

If you know where Tucumcari is, you will know too that we were on the legendary "Historical Route 66" again - as you can see in this picture

...or this one: a Mexican Restaurant...

.... or this pretty "Blue Swallow Motel"...

But I think this business is "out of order" since long time already

The Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo. Tomorrow I'll show you more photos from this funky place

Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, U.S. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm, and it consists of what were (when originally installed during 1974) either older running used or junk Cadillac automobiles, representing a number of evolutions of the car line (most notably the birth and death of the defining feature of early Cadillacs; the tail fin) from 1949 to 1963, half-buried nose-first in the ground, at an angle corresponding to that of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The piece is a statement about the paradoxical simultaneous American fascinations with both a "sense of place" — and roadside attractions, such as The Ranch itself — and the mobility and freedom of the automobile.

Leaving Port Aransas to New Braunfels,Tx

Last Sunday we left Port Aransas with the Ferry to Aransas Pass, a maybe 5 minutes drive over to the other side.

Do you know how a "mirage" looks like? It's like in this photo here...it's like the houses and trees are standing in deep open waters - but they are not. Texas is flat, flat,flat and the weather was warm and this makes the phenomena of a "Fata Morgana", like some people call a "mirage" also.

After driving for more than 2.5 hours over flat land in Texas, we drove into San Antonio, a big city with a very big traffic, where I never ever could imagine to be living here! We were searching for New Braunfels, our next goal for the night.

Finally we arrived in Down Town of New Braunfels, a nice little town with a lot of Germans living here, their roots are going back to the first settlers coming to this place in 1842 from Germany.

This is absolutely a wonderful mural that shows the settlers arriving on a beach and celebrating Christmas together at the beach. (click in the photo to see it bigger)

We have discovered there a typical German Restaurant named "Friesenhaus" und we went in to try the German food. For me: 3 typical German Sausages with "Bratkartoffeln" and Sauerkraut... of course! Dave had a "Sauerbraten" and "Spaetzle" and blue cabagge - and of course a real, good German beer. And I can tell you, it was very good!!! :))

Obviously we missed the life music with the "Lederhosen-Guys", they don't play on Sunday evening anymore!

Click on the picture to read it bigger. We've enjoyed our food very much. I just cannot drink beer anymore without to be a little bit tipsy after one glass only... LOL...well...we are not planning either to eat every day in a German Restaurant, to many calories.....! :)

Thanks for all your kind comments to my first video and for the support and suggestions for doing more of them - I will, I promise. :)

Tomorrow, Monday we will discover the Hill Country region here, going to Luckenbach (well known as a place where people gathering together, play country music and sing together) Today are only 3 habitants living in Luckenbach! We want also go to Friedericksburg, with something over 8000 habitants. In this two places are also a lot of German settlers and Amish people living and they are still speaking their original German Motherlanguage. I'm not German myself, but I would love to speak some words in German again. We will see.... :))

This is the covered pavilion with 3 pools, in every one were one or two turtles swimming around, waiting for their release back to the sea

Turtles are very curious animals :)

Upstairs in the same building we got the chance to see some of these poor injured animals. Most of them were sleeping in small plastic pools, getting medicated and observed from the people working here

The shell of this big turtle was all over grown with sea grass - it was a very sad sight

There were also other cute little patients - like this seagull with a broken wing

Or this majestic looking sea hawk! He will be released pretty soon.

And this pretty great blue Heron bird was NOT a patient from the hospital, he just showed up and was posing for my camera

this was our last day here on this beautiful "Mustang -Island" and in Port Aransas. Tomorrow we will go towards San Antonio and into the "Hill Country". Stay tuned with me!

From Alabama to Texas!

After our visit in LuLu's ("crazy sista" of Jimmy Buffet - see my post from yesterday) we were heading towards Mobile Alabama and crossing soon the border over to Mississippi

And in Mississippi are the Magnolias blooming already

The main attraction here was a trainer that was used since the 1960's. Also the astronauts from Apollo 13 were trained in this capsule.

Fred Haise was one of the astronauts of the mission of Apollo 13 and he was a local guy from the region here in Mississippi

This is the moment before we crossed over the bridge and also over the famous Mississippi River in Baton Rouge in Louisiana

Thank you for all your kind comments to my last post and for visiting my blog. I do appreciate your words and your loyal visits.

We are arrived now in Texas, not to long ago. Only some miles behind the border at I-10 we have found a nice little campground. I'm pretty happy for that, then last night we spent a night on a Truck Stop again and it was raining like crazy and not so friendly looking around us. It was the first time on our trip that I felt a little bit insecure. But we "survived" the night well and we were driving almost the whole day long - to Texas. What I need now is a real Texas hat, right...? :)

We don't know just now what we will do and where we wanna go tomorrow. Maybe down to the Gulf shores to Galveston and Port Aransas to enjoy the beaches and to watch the wildlife. Who knows.... we will see...
