Photo - Swap - Thursday # 1

Hi Everyone,

Like all of you, I’m a big fan of Susanne’s work. I hope you will enjoy our Photo Swap Thursdays as much as I know Susanne and I will! This first photo was taken at sunset in Bodega Bay, California. The story behind it is below:

It was an ordinary sea gull doing nothing more than what sea birds ordinarily do. But the sun was dragging the light of coastal California back into the sea and launching its final spears of light at a craggy shoreline… It was too cold for crowds on the bluff, and soon it was only the bird and me. A fierce and chilling wind whipped my hair, blinding me until I turned to face its force directly. The bird soared effortlessly on its current, floating up again and again without twitching a muscle, merely tipping from side to side to catch the wind’s lift and riding the gusting draft as the sinking sun ignited sand and surf below…

A warm car awaited me. And dinner. A long drive too, during which I would be able to sink into my seat and watch the creeping night absorb the silhouettes along the road. The intensity of the chilling wind would fade instantly to a faint whistle when I leapt into the heated car. And so I could linger for a moment.

It was one of those perfect moments where the intensities of the external and the internal blend into a lasting sensory picture to file under “memories” in your inner library.

The wonder of this one was that I also got the photograph…

Beach Fun

Everyone of us is some when a beginner with something. Learning to surf is hard. I watched this guy very long, he was never giving up to give it another try over and over again. I'm sure, one day he will master riding his board perfectly.

Kids always have fun - also in small waves :)

Sitting at the beach is fun, that's what I like to do: watching all the life going on around me, listen to the waves, to the screaming sea gulls, watching the pelicans flying over my head and to realize how fast time is going by. To feel the warm breeze on my skin is paradise for me - not just for me, I know, all of us love that!

Turquoise Water and the hot Sunshine on your Skin

Hi my friends,

Yesterday, it was just to nice weather for sitting in the house in front of the computer all day long!

We went out to the beach, took a walk and I took some photos, of course....what else...LOL...

The Atlantic Ocean had such pretty blue-turquoise colors, almost like down in the Keys. There were not many people at the beach anymore, some families, one dog and some who tried to fish. It was really peaceful to watch the rolling waves coming to the shores and to listen to the screaming shore birds and to see all the sailing Pelicans over our heads.

I'll show you some photos in the next days about and I hope not to bore you with :)

Tips for Salt Water Fishing

Fish detect a meal in three ways — by scent, sound and movement. Fish use sound to communicate and find prey. Since sound travels faster through water than through air, fish can hear friends and food or saltwater lures that are a long way off. Scent is another powerful weapon for fish; they can pick up one particle of scent and use it to hone in on prey, communicate danger or navigate through the water.

Fish actually have a sixth sense that humans do not. The lateral line running down each side of a fish is filled with tiny hairs that can detect movement in the water. A fish can pick up a moving object, such as a fishing lure or bait, even in complete darkness. Just before it strikes, the fish will use sight to check out its victim. Even in clear water, fish can only see about 15 feet, but they can see colors and shapes. Finally, a fish will use its highly sensitive sense of taste to verify that what it has eaten is actually edible. To fool a fish, you must first fool all of its senses.

Live Saltwater Fishing Bait

When trying to trick a fish, nothing beats live fishing bait. Live bait may be hard to catch and hard to keep, but it's hard to beat when targeting finicky fish. Whether you catch live bait with a hook or a net, avoid touching the bait before putting it on the hook. The live well in which you store your bait should simulate current, oxygen content and temperature of the bait's natural environment. You can transport bait short distances in a bucket with a battery-operated aerator. When fishing with live bait, use the lightest hooks, leader and line possible to avoid further stressing the fish. Passing the hook through the bait fish's lips, eye sockets or nostrils will allow it to swim most naturally. Hooking the bait in front of the dorsal fin will encourage the bait to swim down. For delicate bait fish, tie a bridal out of rigging floss to hold the hook.

thank you all for your kind comments to my post a day ago. I had no time yesterday to post anything, it was a pretty busy day for me. But I'm back now and I hope you enjoy reading this one about salt water fishing. I'm not a fisher at all, I have just captured that guy at Cocoa Beach recently, while he was trying to catch some living baits. It took him long to get something out of the water - it's looks like that's something that people only with a big patience can do. I'm not one of them...*smile*...

We have visited the beach yesterday

Hot sand under your feet and sunshine on your skin and in front of your eyes the endless view of the Atlantic Ocean

I LOVE to listen to the waves!

There were also some surfers enjoying the braking waves

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.

it was a VERY hot summer day today in Saint Augustin. After our visit to the beach (and to the light house, pictures about that will follow tomorrow) we had to run back "home" because of the coming up afternoon thunderstorm. The sky went BLACK and in seconds we had a heavy rain pouring down. And it's still raining....
