Thank you to all my friends for all your kind comments and compliments to my post from yesterday. I don't feel very good today, I think I got a cold in very COLD Key West with an icy wind. That's the reason why I did this collage for you to show you as much impressions of my tropical island paradise, as I can.

This is another romantic sunset made last May over there at Sunset Key.

Der dunkle Vordergrund dieser 3 Palmen am Beach bringen den schoenen Sonnenuntergang erst so richtig zur Geltung. Fotografiert habe ich dies im Mai auf der kleinen Insel "Sunset-Key".

The Old Railroad

Dead end of the road – don’t look back! This picture was made at the end of the cut off railroad bridge at Bahia Honda. Maybe you know the story about the one railroad that was built by Henry Flagler in the early 1900's connecting the Florida Keys with the mainland, at Florida’s Peninsula.

Today, the railroad doesn’t exist anymore and has been replaced with the 7 Mile-Bridge.

Dieses Bild entstand auf dem Bruchstueck der noch erhaltenen alten Eisenbahnbruecke in Bahia Honda. Die Eisenbahn faehrt schon lange nicht mehr, was zurueck geblieben ist, ist viel Rost und noch mehr Nostalgie. Ein reicher Enthusiast und Pionier, Mr. Flagler, hat diese Bruecke in eigener Regie und eigenen Mitteln in den fruehen 1900 erbaut um Key West und all die Keys mit dem Festland zu verbinden. Leider wurde aus seinem Vorhaben ein grosses finanzielles Fiasko und damit das Ende der Bahnstrecke. Die Bahn wurde mit der 7-Meilen-Bruecke ersetzt.

Nowhere have I seen so many of these Herons like we have in the Southeast U.S. and especially in the Florida Keys. He is an excellent fisherman and it’s really enjoyable to see him elegantly walking along the shores always looking for some good food to catch.

Der grosse weisse “Heron-Bird” ist der meistverbreitete Vogel in ganz Florida und in den Florida Keys. Er ist ein excellenter Fischer und es ist eine Augenweide ihm zuzusehen, wie er mit seinen langen und duennen Beinen elegant und langsam am Ufer auf und ab geht, immer wachsam, damit ihm ja kein Futter entgeht. Und wenn Gefahr aufzieht dann oeffnet er seine weiten, weissen Schwingen und fliegt davon zum naechsten sicheren Platz, umgeben von Mangroven – Petri Heil!

The red color is very eye catching, isn't it? People at the pier are always asking me about my secret to how I end up with such a brilliant color in a picture. It is not a big secret! Just put a red filter on the front of your camera and a little bit of “touching up” in Photoshop – et voila, that’s all! That process made a simple picture into a mysterious looking sunset. Enjoy!

In diesem Bild hier ist ein einfacher Bildaufbau mit einer sehr intensiven roten Farbe verstaerkt worden. “Was mag wohl das Geheimnis sein dahinter”? “Wie machst du das nur”?, solche und aehnliche Fragen kriege ich sehr oft zu hoeren. Ich kann sagen, es ist keine Zauberei ! Man nehme: Einen Rotfilter, ein bisschen “touching up” in Photoshop – et voila, das ist alles! Und schon ist ein einfaches Bild farblich sehr ausdruckstark veraendert worden. Ich mag das Bild sehr.

I just love the harmony of the blue color in this photograph! I should call it “A symphony in blue” or something like that… This spot at Smather’s Beach is often inviting me to sit on the rocks to watch the last sunbeams of a busy day disappearing on the horizon and listen to the soothing music of the waves. Sometimes, I’m too much of a romantic, I guess….

Ich liebe so diese Harmony der Blautoene in diesem Bild! Ich sollte dieses Foto eigentlich “Eine Symphonie in Blau” nennen oder irgendsowas…. Wie gerne sitze ich manchmal abends auf diesen Steinen und schaue der untergehenden Sonne zu wie ihre letzten Strahlen ins Meer eintauchen und lausche dem leisen Rauschen des Wassers – es klingt wie leise, zarte Musik. Ich glaube, ich muss manchmal hoffnungslos romantisch veranlagt sein….

This is a favorite picture of mine made in the final sunbeams at Smather's Beach in Key West. The waves are rolling gently to the shore and the shadows are getting longer and longer - can you see the moon coming up on the horizon?

Eines meiner Lieblingsbilder, eingefangen in den letzten Sonnenstrahlen an Smather's Beach in Key West. Leise Wellen rollen ans Ufer und die Schatten werden immer laenger. Siehst du den Mond aufgehen dort am Horizont?

And again, another fantastic sunset made on Sunset Key Island across from Mallory Square. You have to catch the little ferry boat to get over to the island where the ultra-rich live in Key West.

Und schon wieder ein wunderschoener Sunset! Das Bild ist enstanden auf der kleinen Insel Sunset-Key, welches nur mit einer kleinen Faehre zu erreichen ist und genau gegenueberliegt von Mallory Square.

Have you ever heard about the “green flash” – that's where the sun is melting deep red into the ocean and you see a quick flash of green all around? Come down to Key West and listen to Mustafa, the Guitar player at the pier, he will tell you the story about this phenomena in Key West and some people say it happens, but not too often in a lifetime. But personally, I have never seen it.

Hast du schon was von einem “green flash” gehoert? Dann komm nach Key West und lass dir dieses Phenomen von Mustafa, unserem Gitarrenspieler am Pier, erklaeren. Und Leute erzaehlen, es geschieht nicht zu oft und nicht Viele haben das Glueck es zu erleben. Ich persoenlich habe es noch nie gesehen.
